Our Story
Still George's
Since 1961
In 1961, George Najour opened a delicatessen at 1041 North Highland Avenue NE in Atlanta's Virginia-Highland neighborhood. There was a deli up front and a simple beer bar in the back. That was George's. That's still George's.
Over the next six decades, the neighborhood transformed. Atlanta grew. Bars and restaurants came and went. George's stayed — and became something rare: a true Atlanta institution that never lost what made it special in the first place.
The George Burger debuted in 1983 when a kitchen was finally added. It hasn't changed since, because it doesn't need to. Cold drafts, great food, a lively sidewalk patio — Georgia life at its best.
